Default This really sucks...

Earlier this month, my dad was layed off from work. Now driving home today and yesterday, we notice his clutch is going out on his 1991 Accord. It has 221k. It sucks because we don't have any money to fix it. And my car is getting horrible gas mileage and I rely on it myself. This really sucks, I don't know how my dad is going to get around. I feel really bad for him...and if I had money, I'd give it to him, trust me.

I'm not sure if it applies but my dad is legal but not a citizen. He's been here 20+ years and can't even work full time. A clutch job wouldn't be good because we have no experience with mechanical aspects. He's 57 years old as well.

I can't use a bicycle, I need to get all around town.

Sorry for everything, just need to vent my frustrations. I don't really see that much hapiness in my life, with all this going on.

doesn't matter if you are a citizen or not. as long as he is legal he should be able to get unemployment.

Keep your chin up, why don't you loan your car to your father until you guys can save some money to fix his. If you need to drive to work have him drive you there.

Yeah, I did tell him he could use it, but I have no way of getting a ride to school, I got a transfer so I'd have to pay to use the bus. Most of my friend's don't have cars, and the ones that do aren't very close to me and I wouldn't feel comfortable putting them in that situation/letting them know how I have it.

I just don't know what to do right now...Does anybody know how much a clutch would run for a 1991 Honda Accord Lx?

www.partsamerica.com is the online inventory for Advance Auto parts. I did a brief search and came up with:

Perfection Hytest MU477011
New; 4 Piece Set; Contains Disc, Pressure Plate, Throw-out Bearing & Alignment Tool; Cover Type: Diaphragm; 8 7/8" Clutch, 24 Spline, 1" Hub

$108.88

I am guessing that is what you need.

Do you know anything about labor? I guess I'll return my trimmer and try to do some odd jobs around here...maybe find some steelies and sell my wheels, I don't know...I just know I have to do something...Any ideas? And sorry if I ruin the cheerful mood, but it's hard to think sometimes...

Thanks especially to sean.

Labor usually goes $35 - $45 an hour. If you know a mechanic he will usually give you a decent price break. See if your family or friends know a mechanic. I doubt it will be more than a couple of hrs job, so you are looking at $200 - $250 after all is said and done.

Do what you need to bro, I am not in any better shape than you are. I know its natural to be envious of other that have better cars. To me having the freedom to go where I want is satisfaction in itself.
