Another incredible shot of Vai playing two necks on a triple neck at the same time.

I have respect for Satriani, Vai, Johnson, and Petrucci but Malmsteen has never done anything for me at all. I think its the fact that he did that flop of a project back in the 80s that was such bad hair metal with cheesy guitar solos. I think it was SMG or something like that.

yea, malmsteen doesn't seem to play well too much with others. He's great at teh strings but, like sean said earlier, his EGO is just on a whole astralplane of it's own.

I believe the last guy is Dave Weiner. Tony, Billy and Dave are in Steve Vai's band.

and then there's Satriani with that damn super shiny chrome guitar... when I saw him live I was just in the right spot where he would stand and blind me with it.

Like Zack said... Malmsteen is great alone but with a group like G3 he sucks. He can't do team work and in G3 team work is key. Satch taught Vai a lot about the technical aspect and they have a lot of respect for each other. Malmsteen was the lone gun man in that arena. So he kinda uses his ego which becomes a massive downside.

Its sad there is no one left to carry the flame after these guys hang up their axes. I know they all have guitar clinics and schools and I hope one of their students will carry the flame to the next century.

If you guys get a chance pick up the movie Crossroads released in the 80s. Its got the classic scene with Steve Vai and Billy the kid getting into a guitar duel.
