Default Grad school thread

For the lonely road scholars like Kestrel and myself and some others.

Don't ya just love getting that core requirements class test back and 90% of the class gets a C or a D and the teacher goes "I might add some bonus on this." I thought most grad classes were supposed to be open book?

Lets make this the rant and bitch about grad school thread.

Haha
I remember my first midterm here. My teacher (who's African American, looks and sounds like a baptist minister) said
"I graded the exams this weekend. I took off points for mistakes that I saw, then I added everything up. Well, the problem was that most of you got negative scores."

That sucked h:

I got a 64 on my Computer Architecture class test a week back... it literally felt like jumping in front of a tank and getting blown up. Course the teacher is so frigging boring... he actually walked into class opened the book and started reading us the chapters and sections. That would be ok if he actually told us what we were going to cover instead of going "Read that I am not sure if I will include that."

thats just great... have you guy's TA'ed? When you're responsible for grading, you'll understand the disgust most graders have. I can't believe the idiocy of most undergrad HIST majors.

The problem with most profs at the grad level (we'll its the same problem with any prof) is that they assume because you're in the class, you already know everything and are just looking for a way to make it sound better. That'll cut it in some classes, but not in most.

I am a RA - Research Assistant, I wanted to be a TA but then decided after 3 years of tutoring I had enough.

I didn't do much teaching... mostly grading. I made myself available, but really nobody wants to spend their time studying when they don't have to.

I'm graduating early and srtongly considering never going back to school.

I couldn't deal with people coming in the night before a test and wanting miracles so I just quit. You can't expect an A when you haven't attended class for the whole semester.

well that depends on the class. For most, its a lost cause... if the prof didn't teach a single thing, and expects everyone to pick it up themselves, then you might be able to manage.

Some of the stories from three years of tutoring...

Saturday night... frat boy comes in wanting help in Algebra 1. I start helping him, he says he has a test on Monday and he has no clue what to do. His phone rings, he say to the person on the phone: "This is so gay I am here studying for a test, oh the party is starting I'll be right over." He hangs up and says he's learnt enough, he hadn't been there more than 5 minutes.

I'm an RA too. Nominally we're supposed to work 20 hours in the lab. Well, last week I clocked 36. If you calculate my hourly wage based on how many hours I actually worked, I would make half of minimum wage.
