Do you plan to carry the thing around? The Inspiron 5160 weighs over 8 pounds.

When you're in the low-medium price range you can either have high performance or you can have light weight/long battery life. Not both.

and what does getting a program illegally have to do with the quality of a computer? i can get any program i want for free. i'm so cool!!1~ :slap: but why am i even bothering? like you have any clue on quality, what with your bomz intake. :lmao:

What's wrong with a bomz intake? Its just a tube with a filter, and I have a K&N filter...didn't know those were bad... ...and you can't get Final Cut Pro for PC...it's a mac program...I was pointing out that mac>pc. And the quality of the program? Uhh, it's just like if you bought it? :dunno:

I have an HP which is like 7.5 lbs. I gave up on carrying it to class. Pretty much all of the computers I see actually being used in class are iBooks. I do see people with larger ones at the library, but not in class. Also, unless you get a Centrino laptop you will get crappy battery life.

So if you want something for taking notes, I suggest going as light as you can and for as much battery life as possible. But a computer like that ain't gonna play games very well unless you spend a lot more than $1500.

If you're only going to carry it with you every once in a while then something a bit heavier would be tolerable. But yeah the 5160 is 8.3 lbs and that's a bit much.

600m is the perfect balance, my wife has one and its very portable, not as portable as the 700m but thats a different ballgame

i carry my 5160 all day every day and i have to say its pretty bulky especially since its ac adapter weighs a couple lbs, too.

I have the 600m from Dell. I carry it around all the time from school to work. It is over all a VERY good lappie.

And with a P4m 1.8, 768mb ram, 64mb v-card, it does stuff really well. Battery life is great.
