Default Security or biometrics

Oh snap... I want to take both classes but I can only fit one into my schedule. I like the former because I get to finally learn how to break polyaphabetic ciphers. But, I kinda like the latter because I started doing research and working with fingerprint authentication.

I'd prefer the generalized knowledge of security and crypto over biometrics.

Lots of companies have in-house crypto/security folks... biometrics are usually packaged solutions, and aside from UI I don't think the software changes much.

Well one of my current projects involves both, it may open some pretty big doors. I never had a thing for biometrics until I was asked to work on this project, and I'll be damned its pretty interesting.

I think biometrics will become more mainstream as the technology gets better, faster and cheaper to implement.

Heck I was at Circuit City and they had fingerprint recognition for your laptop/desktop.

true but it faces some tough obstacles such as privacy rights advocates, etc.

as late as 1996 some shops near UCBerkeley had fingerprint verification to pay for your stuff. it even checked for a pulse to make sure someone didn't just cut off your finger. however, it was shut down quickly due to privacy rights lawyers screaming about all kinds of shit.

the only place that technology might get wide spread use is in the goverment agencies. particularly the military. small but potentially lucrative market.

Yep... they are really getting big into biometrics. I dunno I kinda hope this project opens certain doors, but then again I hope it doesn't. I always was an advocate of privacy, and now I am being hypocritical by working to remove part of it. :happysad:
