I'm not sure I'm looking forward to this inovation. just what we need, a box to monitor us and then randomly we'll recieve a speeding ticket in the mail because of our car. I think if the next car I have has this I'm going to remove this or find a way to fool the computer so it can't track my speed.

Ska's got the right idea. I bet when/if they implement this there will be people who figure out how to remove the black boxes and if at all possible I'll be one of the people doing so.

I'll be in line with you, the person that invents that will make some serious loot.

you know what else I'm surprised hasn't happened yet? I would think a smart programer, or computer person hasn't created something to fool the ECU into passing emmisions. it would be something you install into your car that is hidden and you flip a switch and the device will adjust settings on your engine so your exhaust will have an acceptable reading. it would also reset any engine codes and show that everthing is running fine. they could sell the product and claim it is for off road purposes. I think a lot of people would be intrested in that. where are all the hackers? they should be doing this.

It hasn't been created because it is not even close to being that simple. You can't make a car pass emissions just by screwing with the ECU signals, it's just not possible in a flip-the-switch style system.

Back on topic: this just gives me another reason to stick to older cars. I don't have to worry about airbags, OBD-II systems, new emissions regs, and apparently now black boxes.

I know its not that simple, but I think it would be a good idea.
