Calling GNR hair metal is like saying Linkin Park is more metal than Black Sabbath.

What is a music video? The fact that you actually know how crappy the video is makes you a poser.

GnR was not metal they were rock.

Technically they are classified as "butt rock" or "white trash anthem" material.

Metal in ths 80s was... Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica. I haven't included Iron Maiden in that because Maiden started in the end of the 70s.

but technically IM was granted a pass into the realm of metal much the same as Judas Priest was since they also made the transition into the new decade

True... metal was very prevalent in Britain with Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath and hence the term NWOBHM - New Wave Of British Heavy Metal was coined. Sabbath, Maiden and Priest helped bring metal to mainstream America. I'd include Deep Purple in that, but they were more progressive than metal.

Deep Purple I would put into Hard Rock category rather than metal. lathough they played songs that would fit in either category they tended more on the rock side.
