Down at Eglin AFB in Florida they have probably 40 miles of testing fields with this warning.

WARNING: DO NOT cross fence, any trespassers will be removed from the area. DEADLY FORCE IS AUTHORIZED

Yes, and it has about 21 missile tubes or whatever they are called. From the looks of it, each tube seemed to be at least a foot and a half in diameter...

I used to live near Dalghrin, VA (spelled that wrong)... well they do large cannon testing there. Some very large projectiles and some very small ones.

They shoot them out over the Potomac River... it's the small ones you gatta watch. The large ones reacted just like a large one would, as you'd expect. Large boom and they dont go very far.

The small ones however... you would see this blur of something moving across the skyline very fast... then you would see a rooster tail of water behind it... then about 5-10 seconds later you would feel this wave of something hit you. But the explosion wasn't that loud. There would be very little splash too.

It was quite awesome to see.

You ever look at the setup on the joysticks?

There is a guard over the firing trigger and they have to be armed by switch on the console to activate the switch. Its a safety protocol so that things such as this do not happen

Yes, but under a combat training manuever, they would be armed. And it depends on the aircraft, not all have trigger guards.

But yes, this should never happen, humans make mistakes, especially in high stress moments.

Those rounds could have easily come from miles away. Even more food for thought, they could have been richochets :eek3:

I'm just glad that no kids were hurt, and that they were only training rounds which are far less dangerous than the real thing.
I hope that people will take this as a wake up call though. We aren't 100% safe in any situation. None of us are promised tomorrow.

My understanding is that the pilot targeted the school thinking it was the actual target.
