Default home stereo question

okay im asking this for a friend,..i know most of you guys have a shelf stereo system right? something like this

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/pro...58MHCG250.jpeg

okay so my buddy just got one off another friend,..he got it because he wants to listen to the radio in his dorm room,..problem is the friend that sold it to him didnt give him the antenna that comes with it,..my question is,..is that antenna really just a piece of wire? could he just use another piece of wire?,..he isnt getting any radio stations and if he does,..he gets a grip of static

i've used 2 pieces of wire in place of an antenna before, real antennas are better but using wire wont hurt anything.

the reception is usually decent. you wont be able to pull in really weak stations but it works fairly well.

a nice thin wire works best.... something between 18-22ga.

about 2-3 feet long. too long and it's going to throw off the frequency pick up, as with too short too.

or create an aluminum foil helmet put said helmet on the head and connect 2 wires just above the ears. connect other end of the wires to the stereos antenna leads :rick:
