Gun people! Newb question
I'm considering buying a gun from a friend of mine. What do I have to do to get it registered in my name, and to legally have it in my car, etc. Is it an easy process? Should I do anything before handing him the $$?

I believe it varys from state to state. In PA, all you had to do in order to have a license to carry is bring your state ID (i.e. license) to your local courthouse. And they issue it right then and there. Assuming you have no felonies on your record.

Oh yeah, GA happens to have reciprocity with PA, meaning we fully recognize your CCW permit as if it was issued here. But be aware, that doesn't give you the right to carry it concealed in many states. FOr isntance say you were driving to PA, and you are in a state which does not recognize your CCW and u get pulled over and they find your hang gun, you are going to jail. You can't even drive on the beltway w/ a handgun. Your very best bet is to take a trip to your local sheriffs office and gather some info. They may have a seminar as well...in my particular county one must wait 3-6 weeks and sit with the sheriff so they can go over all the rules, regulations and laws and field any questions you might have. Educate yourself with the laws to the fullest extent before you start packin.

Just be educated before you started packin.

in New York City........I cant take my gun off my premises. Only to and from the Gun Range. Even then I must have the weapon unloaded and placed inside a pouch in my glovebox and or trunk.
If I get pulled over they will see from my drivers license that I have a gun permit and if they ask for the weapon i must direct them to it and have them take it out of my car for proper inspection etc.....
You should live in Texas. Almost everybody there walks around with a gun.

Nope...it's a group session. You schedule an appointment and you are in a room with a varying number of people. There were about 12 in my group.

In WV, you can walk down the street with a loaded gun in your hand as long as it isn't concealed.
It is kind of hard to get a CCW here, because most people dont even bother, becuase the police pretty much know everyone, and they know if you are up to no good.
