Ok found some info on DST. Apparently back in the day Ben Franklin wanted to implement DST so people would have more daylight time.

During WWII government implemented DST to conserve energy for the war.

Then the government did some research and found out by springing ahead for summer that we could save energy by about 10-20%. Also less accidents and less crime occurred during DST.

And actually there are other countries that do this. I thought we were the only ones, since I worked in a lab too and when we had to send stuff to Puerto Rico they do not have DST.

They don't have it in Arizona or Hawaii either. It would have less impact farther south, close to the Equator. I leave after dark on most days, whether saving daylight or not
