i get those all the time. they consist of ebay, paypal, bofa, wellsfargo etc...

all go straight to junk email

That one, and any other one like it, are called "phishing"...the latest scam to get people to give up their personal information, to be used to raid bank accounts or commit identity theft or credit-card fraud. Use any IP address tracer to look at the e-mail's headers and the address of the "link below," and you'll see that they don't belong to who it says.

Most of the major financial institutions have set up spoof@domain_name addresses to handle forwards of these types of e-mail, and they take it up with the FBI, since phishing constitutes wire fraud under federal and state laws. Make sure you forward that e-mail (if you still have it) to spoof@washingtonmutual.com, and get these morons locked up.

Yeah, I've been getting ones supposedly from suntrust bank for the last few weeks and now washington mutual. Just someone out there fishing for account info. I hate scumbag con-artist spammers! :madfawk:

Oh, I thought it was just plain old "fishing". Is it called "phishing" because you would have to be stoned to fall for it?

Yeah, that's about it. It always amazes me how otherwise intelligent people suspend their normal suspicions about stuff when it's on the Internet (OKA "it's on the Internet, it must be for real").
