Toss a Hub there and split that from one of the wired connections off the router.

I already have gigabit nics in my systems...

make sure you use a regular cable with the switch and the xbox.

he doesnt really need a switch if its going to be in his home...

Switches work better in a corporate environment where you have 200+ people working on a network.

A simple hub like the one below will work just as fine as a switch and less expensive. Thoseyou can find for like 10 bucks

they have hubs that are auto sensing 10/100.

For the same price there is no reason to buy a hub over a switch. Also switches work better regardless of the environment. I used a hub for about a year at home, never again.

i've got a hub and 2 nics i'm getting rid of, pm if interested, disregard if not. delete this if need be.

But you CAN get a switch for that cheap.... so why not? It's better. It's more efficent. It's just a better way of connecting network components.
