Ruck Roe. Quick computer helpie.
So I have a laptop. P4m 1.8 with 256 MB of pc2700.
So I bought some more ram and it just came in the mail. I bought pc2100 because that is what the Dell website says my laptop ran on. So I made the mistake of opening the package before I opened the laptop. Upon opening the laptop, I see a pc2700 chip staring back at me. So I'm like shit, bought the wrong speed.
So I plugged it in anyway since the package was already opened.
Question, 768MB of pc2100 or 256MB is pc2700? Or should I ebay this piece, lose a few bucks, and buy another chip of 512MB pc2700?

You can't return it to Dell?
If you can eBay it and only lose a few bucks, then do that.
Otherwise, it's not that much of an issue since stabibility isn't really compromised on your setup.

Return what to sell? The laptop is from Dell, but the new 512 stick of ram is from elsewhere. I doubt I can return the ram because it is opened and now used
h:I was worried about it being stable, but different speeds work fine together. It is just that the 256MB chip of pc2700 has now turned into pc2100 losing some speed.

I wouldn't worry about it WiwL unless you are looking to extract maximum performance from your laptop.
the speed difference isn't going to cause a big hit in overall performance.

If I can return it, I would also. But I cant return used ram. And I will lose out a few bucks reselling that ram and buying a new piece. Is that lost worth the minimal gains I will get?

I thought you bought the ram from Dell... See that's why I carefully open everything so I can reseal it and return it as new if there's any issues :rick:
