i graduated in Spring04 with a degree in Operations Management and Information Systems.

 

engineering labs sucks ass cuz i have em on a friday afternoon, no one pays attention and surfs the web. but when the midterm came, we were all screwed, next is matlab, yay...

 

where do you go to school and what year are you?

 

I hate labs with a passion... first of all I have to get up friday morning, and you all know how thursday nights are in college... then I have to write a 10 page 6-7 hour lab report each week. Too much work for one class h:

 

hope you plan on getting a PhD because with only a Masters in that field, the pay tops out at about 80K (with a decade of experience). With only a undergrad degree you'll make around 45-50K if you are lucky enough to get hired.

50k isn't bad...if you don't mind leaving CA.

 

That's in CA. It's a lot lower outside of CA.

Example. In UCB my friends lab leader (besides the prof) got his PhD and took a job offer in Ohio. His pay $70K a year. This is after 7years of graduate study at a top University. Now in Ohio you can live comfortably on 70K. In CA he would have been paid closer to 90K.


Too bad for him, he already had 2 kids with 1 on the way and he has to take care of him mother too. So he gets by but he looks forward to when biotech takes off again.

 

Hmmm. Here they'd make about the same.
