Default professional sounding microphone for computer.

Hi all,
I know this is car forum but I really need suggestions/inputs/recommendations for a great microphone for the computer.

Most importantly, I'm looking for a microphone that is clear, suited for recording voices, and how well it picks up (in terms of the guitar playing and other instruments).

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you have any idea, give me inputs.

THANK YOU KINDLY =)

- Cammie

well i dont know much about this stuff but i know good ones can be alot of money. i would recommend going to an audio forum or just looking up reviews on microphones in your price range. and i would be willing to bet that anything marketed for computers, is not a good quality microphone.

Are you plugging it straight into your computer, or into a mixer or other audio interface first?

If you are just plugging it into the 1/8" microphone jack on your 'puter, then your options are pretty much limited to what you can find at Radio Smack...which won't be anything terribly great. If you have something between the microphone and your computer (pre-amp, mixer, whatever), then there are plenty of great microphones out there for any application. Professional ones usually aren't cheap. I can make suggestions for those if that's what you're looking for.

Well I'm buying it for a friend of mine and I'm sure he has other auto interface to mix with...since he does produce his own music.

So any suggestions???

This is an expensive one...very nice mic, been around for a long time. Neumann makes good stuff:

This was probably my favorite one to use at school. Very warm and crisp sounding. Tube mics > *

Haven't used this one, but probably very similar to the above one, quite a bit cheaper though:

I imagine these are a little on the expensive side for a gift though.
Any more specifics? Accoustic guitar? Need to mic amps or drums or anything?
