the micro drives use a tiny platter. why the usb flash drives use a solid state flash memory chip.
I say get her a 1GB USB 2.0 flash drive.
that way she can use it on anything.

speed wise if the usb 2.0 drive is connected to a usb 2.0 port then it's a little slower than the microdrive.
