Default Poor range with new cordless phone

Well here at my work (a motel) the front desk people often have to walk out to housekeeping or even just do a walkaround of the building. We have a cordless phone for this purpose. Now the old 2.4 Ghz phone was a piece of garbage as soon as I get maybe 5 doors down, it stops working. It would still ring if I had a call, but if I tried to answer it, there would be nobody there

Anyways, we assumed this was a problem with the phone so I come in to work today and my boss had purchased a brand new phone. 5.8 Ghz, crazy display, VERY nice phone. Range still sucks. Except the new phone won't even ring. I used to have 900 Mhz phones back in the day that had way more range than these things. Therefor we assume the building may have something to do with it? Anyways, my question is, what sort of things could be hurting our range, and is there anything we can do to improve it?

I love it. I get $10 an hour to sit here and talk to my friends on msn/surf the web. I don't have to do ANY work. Customer comes in, type some crap in the computer, sign here and here, swipe credit card, see you later. Oh no, Billy in 106 needs a pillow, go bring him one. That's about it. I'd say in an 8 hour shift I probably do 1 hour of real, actual work.

And it's not one of those jobs where you do nothing and if your boss is around, you have to pretend you're working, he knows my job is to do nothing, it's so great, lol.

Local one. I'd imagine working at a chain one would be significantly different.

Mandi you just need a job period so get off your laurels and put in an application. If the building is old and theres alot of metal in the area then it will make the coverage low. When they test those phones they test them out in the middle of no where.
