A car had twice the torque of it's hp? I mean, is it even possible to have that much more torque than hp? What would happen when you try to accelerate?

i'm sure most diesels come close.

i also recall one of the old jeeps with the V8 option.. it had like low 100something hp but 2xxft/lb of torque. it was a slow ass pos.

I meant more along the lines of sporty cars, coupes, and smaller cars.

diesel engines make sometimes 3 times as much tq as hp.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question381.htm

read that..
torque is horsepower..

HP = Torque * RPM / 5,252

It would have a lot of low end power, but not much in the top end.

well it's possible. if you limit the revs then the hp will be lower.

but the answer is the same. the car would accelerate

So basically, if you're big on drag racing it would make sense to sacrifice HP and top end power for torque?
