It appeared that he was trying to show the camera that the specific corner was "his turf" and no one could do anything about it.

That was my first thought. Why would you need a gun when you have a guided bludgeon weighing in at well over a ton? I'll lay money down that being hit by a car is a much better stopper than a 9mm.
