Off topic means that the topics are not in keeping with the overall theme of the site, that being cars. It does not mean anything goes with respect to keeping to the original topic, although it is a bit looser than the other forums.

The reason the on topic forum was gotten rid of was because it didn't get enough traffic. Putting the political posts in the basement gets more traffic to them, and while that does make them more susceptible to whoring, it also gets a better spread of discussion.

This is still primarily a car board, so we don't need to have a separate politics forum.

I think it should be split up. I made two separate forums on IL so that those who don't want to be bothered w/ politics and other On Topic things don't have to be bothered with them. It has helped because the threads in On Topic are taken much more seriously.

The On topic type threads will just continue to have people who don't want to see them post in them to complain that they are here. If they don't like em they have the choice not to click on them.

I would like to see a "current events" forum. We'd just need to enforce strict rules in there.
