Default Am I Wrong?

I work for a large company. My grandfather passed away on Sunday. In order to go to his funeral yesterday I had to use my vacation time. They wouldn't give me 4hrs of bereavement. I have never used any bereavement time, never call in sick, etc. After 3 yrs of hard work I consider this a huge slap in the face, and I find it hard to want to work here anymore. Not to mention no one bothered to make arrangements for flowers either. Any company that I've ever worked for, or anyone in my family has worked for would of done both. I could understand if it was out of town, and I needed more than 1 day. But 4hrs??

What are your opinions or experiences?

That's pretty shatty of them to not allow 4 friggin hours bereavement. I attended a funeral yesterday and work was more than gracious to give me to whole day.

Kick 'em in da nutz.

I work for the really big company here... 2 years ago my Niece died, she was in Tanzania (Africa) so i needed like 2 week minimum(as i like in Montreal Canada)....They agreed and pay 1 week of those 2. I guess it just really depends!

But in my opinion after investing 3 years of working hard, and if you enjoy your job, its not worth qutting over it! Just call in sick that day.. pretty sure no one will bust you balls for that!

Berevement time is a company policy and not mandated under laws. Is it wrong? yes. Is it legal? unfortunately, yes.

That really blows. My grandma died almost 2 years ago and I was with my company for almost 3 years at the time. My manager gave me time off and told me to come back to work in a few days when i was ready. It made me feel really good that this huge company had a heart. They didn't send any flowers or anything but that's ok. Two of my co-workers did show up for the wake.

I guess that's what I get for being honest. Next time I won't say anything, and just call in sick for a whole day. I filed a complaint with Corporate HR, waiting on a response.
