windows xp CDs when you purchase their desktops? I can't seem to find mine h:

No, there is a partition on your hard drive with all the reinstall data. If you reformat....you're screwed.

They give you a reinstallation CD, it's not a regular Windows XP CD, but it has Windows XP on it.

They give you one of those Memorex CD-Rs with the words "Windows XP" on it and the serial # written in sharpie.

I think my friend got a Dell and he has that stupid partition with all the data and no restore discs. I could be wrong though. When I got my IBM Thinkpad it had that BS and I called IBM and complained. They sent me a set of restore discs free of charge. The do that for the first 30 days (because you can return the computer no questions asked for a full refund during that time). After 30 days you have to pay for the discs plus shipping. I know other people that got Compaqs and got the same deal, no discs.
