i just used 700 degrees to say that the material was heated. think about it, lets say you have to fit a bearing into somewhere thats metal. The way most people do it is either press it in or heat the metal so the bearing fits in smooth

Doesn't it just make the metal more malleable? But the hole is still getting smaller? I dunno, if the metal expands, the hole theoretically should get smaller, but the metal will be more malleable.

I've always seen people freeze metal to make the molecules more compact...I've never once seen someone heat metal to make any sort of hole bigger.

no...you cant think of the hole as a seperate entity. as the metal as a whole expands, then the hole would get bigger with the metal as it is expanded in an outward direction.
