My son just turned 9 last week and wanted to play football this year so his mom signed him up for the NFL Flag football league, he's on the Falcons. I was kinda disappointed at first but after seeing how organized the league is, how excited my son is and all the perks of it, I have warmed up to it. I mean, let's be real, flag football is widely viewed as being soft. But anyways, the season started today and they won their first game 34-18. My son played mainly at Cornerback today and he locked his man down, he didn't get a single catch against him. He almost got an interception too but he couldn't hold on to the ball.

The league is sweet, the kids get replica NFL jerseys and this year they play a tournament at the 49ers practice facility in Santa Clara! Just wanted to share with you cacs, im pretty excited about it!

Why not Pop Warner tackle football? I started when I was 7, and yes - it's safe.

To be honest, I don't think he could have handled the physicality of it. From the long practices and all the running/excercising/drills, to the actual hitting in the games, I don't think he had the mentality and physical ability to deal with that. This is a good way to get his feet wet, learn the basics and hopefully will make him yearn to wear the helmet/pads and stuff like the big boys. If not, that's his choice and I will support him in whatever he wants to do.
