Default !@#*ing taxes.

I started my own company at the beginning of this year. None of the stuff we've done up to the point has required that I charge sales tax, but NYS still requires me to file a quarterly estimated sales tax return and to pay the estimate.

I completely forgot to do it for Q1 and Q2, so for Q2 New York sent me a $50 penalty. For not paying estimated sales tax. The estimate is $0.

Q3 taxes are due by Monday, so I sent in the $50 penalty and the estimate for Q3 today.

ARGH. Anyone else have to deal with this stuff?

So you're mad because you forgot to do your part when it comes to the requirements of running your own company?

Sounds like you should have been more on top of things, and had you been, you would have saved $50.00.

That said, $50.00 isn't bad; I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Just because it is stupid, does not mean you don't have to do it. Consider it a $50 lesson, it will piss you off less. I have employees and the whole nine yards. California has to be the worst place in the world to do business.

Seems to be your error. Keep better books:slap:

Shut the **** up. You have no idea what I do or what my life is like and you are in no position to be critical. I wouldn't take that kind of bullshit from my best friends; I'm certainly not going to take it from you.

$50 is peanuts, but you've obviously missed the point. Why should I have to pay estimated quarterly sales tax at all? Why should I have to file a quarterly return at all, particularly when none of my business activies thus far have incured any sales tax liability? New York State should be able to collect taxes once per annum and function based on actual revenue.

I don't fret over the existence of taxes, but the needless complication of the system only increases the cost of running it.

My books are just fine. I didn't collect any sales tax and thus I should not have to file a quarterly estimated sales tax return. Doing so is a complete waste of resources, both for me and for the state government which now has to process a return that generates no revenue.

Also, that :slap: thing is really obnoxious. Don't be that guy.
