Need pc help
I am beginning to realize my friends are ignorant at best. I was asked to spec out a pc for them, I did and asked them to give me a day before they ordered it so I could make sure everything was compatible. Oh no that wasn't right, it got ordered and now it seems the motherboard can't handle the processor and its somehow my fault.
Well I contacted Asus and they told me that the motherboard did support the processor. Its an Asus P4S800-MX motherboard taking a Intel P4 3.0GHz processor with 1MB L2 cache. Asus' site says that the mobo only supports 512kb of L2 cache but it has a BIOS update that says will make it more compatible with the processor.
Can anyone help me... otherwise its $$$ I am going to lose... please... thanks.
Cliff notes: will the Asus P4S800-MX motherboard support the P4-3E GHz (800 FSB, L2 cache:1MB, HT, 90nm) processor.

what bios is the mobo on? if it's not rev 1005 or later, got a spare P4C? put it in and flash the bios.
http://www.asus.com/support/cpusupport/cbios_dl/cbios_dl.aspx?MB=P4S800-MX&CPU=P4-3E%20GHz%20(800%20FSB,%20L2%20cache:1MB,%20HT,%209 0nm)&BIOS=1005

So you are saying it should be able to handle 1MB of L2 Cache once I flash the bios. Which is what I thought but this guy, who interestingly is a grad Computer Science student, doesn't know what flashing the bios means. He wants peak performance, so he wants to use all that 1MB L2 cache.
