Default Winamp users: problems today?

Well, the damnedest thing happened today.

I'm running Winamp V. 5.02 on my other computer (yes, I run this laptop side-by-side with a desktop) and it was acting weird when I got to it this morning (thursday morning.) It was running fast and not playing audio, so I automatically checked the output settings. It was set to directsound output, which I never changed it to, and set it back to wave output. All was good, I could hear my music again.

Well, I was listening to some music with a roommate on his computer (Winamp V. 2.92.) The SAME THING happened to his, it wouldn't play audio but was still running. I looked at the Winamp output settings, and his was changed to directsound output too... except we were just using it, and it was playing fine. I swapped it over to wave output, and it was playing peachy again.

In short, my Winamp and my roomies screwed up today, two different versions on two different operating systems (V. 5.02 on Windows 98SE and V2.92 on Win XP pro.) Did this happen to anyone else, or was this some creapy freak occurance?

EDIT: the Winamp V. 2.95 that I'm using on my Windows XP pro laptop is still working fine. It's really weirding me out. :dunno:

Sometimes listening to the radio will change settings for you without you knowing.

Directsound output is the default setting. Works fine here. 5.02

I just turned it back to directsound output... and it's running fine with it again.

Weirdness.

That sounds like "Disk Writer" mode, not directsound. Both Wave Out and Directsound SHOULD work fine for audio. But Disk Writer is used to convert MP3's to WAV format and usually appears to play the song extremely fast and with no audio.

I'm familiar with diskwriter, and it wasn't running that fast, nor creating a .wav file. It was set to directsound when I looked, changed it to wave, and it worked fine. I changed it back to directsound today (I never turned the computer off, BTW) and it worked fine.

I haven't had a chance to check out my friend's today, but I assume it's still running fine on wave.
