They're too big for complete control, not powerful enough to do much more than what you can do by hand, and they don't really save too much time.
Unless you want to throw down $120 for a Porter Cable, which is still random orbital but can vary from 2,000 OPMS to 6,000 OPMS (oscillatinso per minute). (I think when rick thought of 3,000 being too high he was in rotary mode--which, well, working at 3,000 RPMs would not be a good idea).
Anyway, scratch X was never meant to be used for the whole car and I have found that it is useless on scratches, so I don't know why they make it. Also, if you are using Scratch X and the Deep Crystal Polish reverse the order to scratch X--> polish (the scratch X is a little more agressive than the polish).
Now, you want to get rid of swirls. I would use Meguiars #9 swirl remover, Poorboys SSR2, or Meguiars speed glaze. My choice being Poorboys SSR2 (specialtymotoring.com notice they have 2.5, but I'd use that with a PC only, a bit too agressive for hand use).
Application with the three of these are the same in regards to:
>use a terry applicator or towel folded in quarters (my preference)
>use linear motions. Do not use small circles. work the product until it is almost gone. This means, don't just apply it and watch it haze--apply it, go over it several times with the applicator. This is not a wax and letting it haze will do nothing for what you're trying to accomplish. Going over the area until the product is clear ensures that the polish has broken down in agressiveness and provided a finish that needs the least clean up after (in other words: you don't want to have to use another polish.
With the #9 I would not use a polish between it and NXT because #9 contains fillers and by using a polish, you will likely clean away the fillers.
You may find #9 at a store by you. I think you said that you were in texas--if you want, I can ask a few people that I know work out of texas for places to buy products locally for you.
