I'm guessing that the whole story about him being a doctor is a kind of "diversion" to remove any obvious answers (as opposed to saying that he was some kind of business man with a briefcase).
I guess no one would think that the doctor would have his wallet/passport in his doctor's bag.

The thing is, the story is so vague, it never says he had his wallet, his passport, or his ticket/boarding pass in his bag. So those could be answers but not definite. I keep all that stuff in my pockets.
