And FWIW, I'm glad the left the rear elevation alone. It's gorgeous. The side intakes and front end could use some work, though. :a:
There is no point in differentiation if the design is ugly.

The angle of the photo is a little odd; I'll wait until I see it in person.

Well, from a business standpoint they are brilliant, I'm not denying that at all. I'm just talking about from a true sports car enthusiast's standpoint...people who drive those aren't looking for the performance associated with its namesake...they just want to be seen driving something from that brand due to its prestige.

the wheels on the boxter look terrible to me. i was pretty excited about the possibility of a boxter coupe...well have to see if its made.

i dont think the boxter is just an entry-level badge whore. the 6 cyl cayenne...now thats a badge whore. but then again i think the 318ti is a great bmw (especially one of my m coupe buddy's who is swapping in an s54 from an m coupe...315hp = ultimate sleeper).

Okay, that argument is sound against BMW and MBZ, but I'm sorry... the Porsche Boxster is a hell of a lot more focused as a performance automobile.
If any Porsche deserves such criticism (vanity over performance), it's that rediculous Cayenne SUV...(God, I cringe at the very thought of that thing).

That horrid schiess-wagen has no place in the Porsche lineup. It is an absurd contradiction of vanity, conspicuous consumption and flawed driving dynamics.

[Yes, I said flawed.]

So there. :eek3:

Pardon my intensity.

Wheels look like they belong on a Subaru. Love the "new" 997 frontend styling though!

Well, I was looking at it from a different angle, but I see your point. I compare owning a cayenne to owning an H2...you paid a lot of money to be looked at.

To me, the base Boxster isn't the case. The base boxster is 42k...realitively easy to afford for the average 30-something Joe Blow, and yet they relish the fact that they own something as prestigeous as a porsche.

All IMO of course.

Hey, at least it is a Porsche in the sporting vein that Ferdinand established all those years ago. I think the all around performance and engineering brief of the Boxster validate the Porsche brand identity.

OTOH, a tarted-up Volkswagen SUV with a bespoke motor does not - IMO - make a proper Porsche....regardless of how fast it is. And the V[R]6 variant is just disgusting to think about.

(And for the record, I felt the same way about the 924/944.
----
Getting back on topic though, it's a shame to see Porsche lose their way in design purity. h: Back to teh drawing board, methinks.

Porsche's are getting more and more bland as time goes on, I swear. So far my favorite (other than the super exotic Porsches) is the good ole' 993 Twin Turbo with the huge rear flares and a nice Whale Tail. Oh that was such a nice car.

I have heard that the new Porsche turbo (the one to replace the current 996) is sexy looking though.... I havn't seen it myself yet though.

EDIT: I have seen the new "unvieled" Porsche 997, it's not too exciting either.

Pfft.

Man, I'll take you back even further than that.

1963 356B /2000 GS Carrera 2.
The very embodiment of Dr. Porsche's masterpiece.
