BMW Newb question
in 96 (I think) europe has the vanos 341(I think) hp 6 cylinder engine in the M3, is it possible at all to switch the european engine into an american m3?
I am starting to read up on bimmers , heh.

In 96 that would make it E36. They had a 321hp Euro S52. To answer your question, no you can't simply just put the euro engine parts into the US S52.
They were too different engine blocks.
Also it would never pass smog and the engine alone costs $13K. Value of a pristine 96 E36 M3 is $15K or less.

BMW did it but not on the E36 M3. On the E36/8 M Coupe. Well they put in the S54 not S52.
Yes it's possible but very very expensive and would never pass smog.
