Default Anyone know about old Mercedes?

I was looking in the newspaper, and I saw someone selling a 1985 500 SEL AMG for a pretty good price. Anyone know about them? I've heard that some of those 80s Mercedes with the AMG packages could really move, and were top end beasts. Anyone have any info for me, or know a place I could get some?

They are blasts! AMG was an indipendent tuner back then.

Should do 60 in about mid 6s and top out around 150+. Keep in mind they are old cars now and parts aren't exactly cheap.

I say at least test drive it.

Maintenance costs are horrendous. Have the car thoroughly checked out by an independent MB specialist.

If it's selling at a low price, there is a reason and you should be very cautious.

Repair costs will be high, you will have a problem finding a mechanic who knows enough to help you cheaply, and the "AMG" appellation could actually be a counterfeit.

It's a huge car and you will not be inclined to work on things yourself, things that you would've tackled on a Honda and not paid someone else to do.

It is also going to go through fuel like it's the Queen Mary.

And if you say "old Mercedes" to an aficionado, he will think you're talking about something older.

Something more like this: One of My Bigger Mistakes

I think it will be at least worth a look at. I'll have to see what kind of shape its in and see how it feels driving it. I'll let you guys know what I think. Thanks for any input
