Punk Buster and lag

I was looking for an answer to this and couldn't find anything about it but does PB cause lag on servers?

I've always noticed that when I play on AA servers with PB they are usually laggy. I'm not sure if it really causes lag but that has been my experience.

Not sure I have never used it before but I like the idea. I was playing a server and didn't check if it was active or not...still trying to figure out how it all works a bit.
