what are some good and free programs that you guys use to convert/encode avi files to mpeg or wmv files to mpeg? tia.

i use tmpgenc. videohelp has some nice writeups.

tmpgenc is what I use as well. great interface and results.

step one: right click, rename

step two: delete .avi, add .mpeg

done.

b/c 60 mins of minidv media is approx 14gigs. i want to encode it as mpeg to burn onto a cd or save as dvix.

btw, is tmpgenc free to download?
