So I get a credit card statement from a card I haven't used in a year... The card expired a month ago, and they sent me a new one, but I never took off the sticker or called the number to activate it.... Today on the bill, I was charged $9.95 from some weird company, the telephone listed is a (270) area code, but it had "NY" next to it. I called the CC company because I don't remember charging or even USING the card...

Me: "I have a question regarding my bill"
Him: "What's the problem?"
Me: "Well, I received my statement, but I haven't used my card in well over a year"
Him: "We ask that you first contact that vendor/store and verify that the purchase wasn't made with your authorization"
Me: "Uhm, I keep track of my purchases, I know what I buy, and uhm, I never activated my card"
Him: "Hmm, oh, yes...."
Me: "I think my number is stolen and I just don't want to be charged larger amounts in the future "
Him: "So, would you like to claim it as being stolen/lost/fraud?"
Me: " :doh: YES "

I suggest you guys to check your statements, this happened to my mom not too long ago also.

My sister's card had some charges that were made in Paris, France...she was in the US.

 

When my parents first got married they confused my mom and some lady with the same name. So the lady was writing bad checks and bouncing them all over the place and my mom straightened it out, and, well, they still sent my mom service charges for bounced checks. This is why we don't go to Marine Midland/HSBC.
