That's gotta be annoying! What if you programmed all your phone numbers without area codes!
Here, we have that rule where we have to dial the area code even if I am making a local call. (ex. If I am in 212, I have to dial 212-XXX-XXXX)

In the Charlotte Metro area, we've had to dial ten digits for a few years. All of my numbers are stored as 10 digits in my cell. The same applies to landlines. A few years ago, they incorporated a new area code into our area (980), in addition to the current 704.

yea, southeastern PA put that into effect YEARS ago. i was dialing area codes @ age 8! but central PA doesn't have this....luckily i remember the area code for here.
