true story. there are people in congress and other high brow positions in the gov that lie or exaggerate on their resumes. alot of them 'stretch the truth' about their experience and education too.

when I was in highschool I worked night shift at a restaurant. but I quit because I got lazy and didn't want to work nights. on my next job application I wrote reason for leaving: "scheduling conflict" and told them I had night classes that conflicted w my work schedule so I had to quit.

Here's an example of a cover letter and resume I sent out.

210 Lakelawn Place #3D
Madison, WI 53703

May 11, 2004

Mr. Jason Green
President & CEO
Adfluence, Inc.
9700 Great Seneca Highway
Rockville, MD 20850

Dear Mr. Green:

I am writing to apply for the summer internship position on the sales team at Adfluence that is listed on the vault.com job board. Based on my education, experience and career interest in marketing, sales, and communication, I believe that I am a good candidate for the position.

I am currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and will graduate in May 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Throughout the course of my studies I have developed excellent oral and written communications skills. Outside of school, my current position as a caller (telephone fundraiser) at the University of Wisconsin Foundation has provided me with practical experience in telephone sales. Also, my four summers of experience as a counselor at Camp Airy have further developed my people skills through my interactions with campers, their parents, my colleagues and my supervisors. I have excellent communication skills, enthusiastic interest in sales, telephone sales experience, and a desire to learn while contributing to Adfluence’s success.

I am impressed by what I have learned about Adfluence from my internet research. Your level of success in drawing attention to clients’ programs and extensive client list are compelling. I think that these assets are excellent tools for your sales team.

I would enjoy the opportunity to meet with you in order to further discuss my qualifications. You may contact me at (608) 239-2685 or by email at msatlas(at)wisc.edu. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.

Sincerely,

Michael Atlas
