Polygamy
Since most of the threads in here seem to be lifestyle oriented, I thoguht this would fit in here nicely.
My point on this is... if it is what three (or more) people who love each other want, what is the government's issue in the matter? They are hurting neither themselves nor others, and it has no negative impact on society as I see it.
In today's cramped schedules I can see only good resulting from a triad's ability to nuture a child more than a households with two parents working, and you can't even bring into play the argument used against gay adoption, which is that the child would not see a healthy relationship between a man and a woman.
Furthermore, there is no direct religious implication (one only has to read the old testament to see that god has no problem with polygamy, and the koran is pretty supportive as well).
So why all the fuss?

The people in the government made it that way because their jealous wives made them. You have to realize, This country was founded on a separation of church and state, but that doesn't mean that most of the laws we have are because of religion. This country was founded by a bunch of super strict, everything is evil puritans.
i want a harem. but seriously, it's just another one of those laws pushed through by christian fundamentalists hundreds of years ago. it's just like it's legal to beat your wife on the steps of the state capital in south carolina on the first monday of the month. go figure.
back in the old testament days, did they always live together? Some might have, but i think most didnt. but i see it the same way as i see gay marriage...if you want to be gay, well thats your thing...no need to get legally binded. if you want to have 10 "wives", go for it. no need to get legally binded to all 10 of them.
Back in the day marriage was also done for property and power and not for love. A man had more than one wife to show that he could afford to support so many spouses. If you guys want to let me sit around and sew all day then you can have as many wives as you want.
The reason men had more than one wife "back in the day" is because there were always more women than men. A woman might get married and have children, then her husband gets killed in a war. Now she has no way to care for her children but to become a prostitute. So, they allowed men who could afford to have extra wives (In Islam I believe the limit was(is) 4, I don't know about other cultures)...they had to be able to support them all (usually a different house, or at least a seperate area in a large estate for each wife), had to treat each fairly, and weren't allowed to engage in sexual relations with more than one wife each day.
It's in a male's nature to be polygamous also...a man can have 4 different kids with 4 different women all at once (while a woman, of course, can only bear one man's child at a time). Just a faster way to populate the earth, I guess.
I really don't think this is a valid argument in today's society, where women are allowed to work. and the earth is overpopulated enough already...no need to go around spreading your seed like crazy. as far as 2 men, one woman, or any combination because they're "in love" with each other and so forth...I don't think that's right...but I also agree that it's not the government's place to say you can't do it.
