I only trust the weather forecast 3 days into the future. After that its all guessing.

Anyway, I guess people could plan vacations and/or outdoor events better and more precisely if they knew what the weather would be like.

Agreed. 3 days for the local and national forcast are must more accurate.

However.... I read an article last week that suggested that with all the forcasting abilites and super computer clusters that the govt has.... it's very possible they have a much further outlook. Maybe not as accurate and as location specific. But they can predicte pretty well if they think florida might have a 90% chance of a hurricane in the next 6 months.

That's why I asked. I think there are already some people that know pretty well what the weather in general for most major areas are going to be for upto 6months out...

Just think if we could predict that the east coast will see a drought... in some ways it would be good. We could prepare... but what kind of impact would it have on local economies... people with vacations planned or business travelers might put off plans for another week if they knew there was going to be some severe weather in an area they were headed to. That would have a financial impact on the airlines, taxi's/busses, local restruants, local hotels.

If 10,000 people were planning on visiting NY on aug 25th, but we knew that on that day it was going to be very severe thunderstorms, I would bet that some of those people would not travel. That could have a strong impact on local economy. Or they might change their plans and go somewhere else.

I think knowing too far ahead in some situations would be great... could save lives if we know about a monsoon coming to australia... but could be bad if everyone decideds to stay away from an area because of weather.
