Default Repeal of California Smog Exemption

Okay, this is not technically integra related, and may be in the Basement by the time you are reading it, but...This is regarding AB 2683, that has already gone through the assembly, gone to Senate committee and been sent back to Assembly committee. Written by Assemblywoman Lieber of Mountainview(A known bedwetter) Here is the skinny. This amends the rolling blackout from 30 years, limiting it to cars from 1976 and older, taking effect in January of 2005. This is a bit different from what was previously reported, I think they changed it to keep from putting any exempt vehicles back into testing. My State Assembly guy already voted against it, so my humble request is that y'all go to
State of Confusion...uh California website
and e mail your assembly members and complain. It is only going to impact us guys with a post 1976 car that was looking forward to doing anything with it. It would eventually apply to my integra, and it very likely would become a turbocharged hydrocarbon spewing monster. More immediately for me, it would mean an unrequited love for a Raby Type IV motor for my bug(Tripling the HP and torque of my 2000 lb convertible) and potentially not being able to drive my bug when the FI finally gives up the ghost. Please, be politically active, do it as a car guy(or gal).

Sincerly, Toby

Good work! :goodjob:

SEMA and the NMA have also been lobbying against this bill since its introduction. I have already called both of my representatives, voicing my disapproval.

Nonetheless, I strongly urge everyone in California to join in the effort to shoot this bill - AB 2683 - down.

They've gone too damn far as it is.
CARB needs to stop badgering enthusiasts and start cracking down on other segements of motor vehicle traffic (buses, heavy trucks, etc.)

Fight AB 2683!

Also, here's the direct link to the CA State Legislature , AB 2683.
Keep tabs on what they're up to in Sacramento...
And defend yourselves. :goodjob:

And here's the latest summary. This bill - if passed - will make smog checks significantly more expensive and invasive - FOR EVERYONE.

If you're a California resident, please join this fight.
Send AB 2683 down in flames.

Default What can you do? Plenty!

You can do a lot. These bastards in Sacramento work for us. They will listen when half their constituents respond urging them not to approve AB 2683.

• Call or email your state assemblymen & senators.
Links are available from the CA assembly website. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/
• Call or email any one of the opponent organizations listed in the Bill Summary link I posted.
• Join SEMA. Your membership dues help finance their PAC and their lobbyists...both defend your right to modify your car as you see fit.
• Post links to this thread elsewhere on the web.
• Stand on the street corner and rant and rave about it. h:
• Any [legal] action that gets people aware and calling their representatives.
___

And for the record....getting high won't get anything done. :a:

That is, unless you like the idea of permanent [no exemptions, ever] smog checks that cost $60 -$80 dollars more than they do currently. If you think smog legality in CA is a PITA now...if this bill passes, things will only be tougher for driving enthusiasts like us.

Fight their BS legislation!

These bastards work for us!

This bill must not pass.

If a smiley is all you feel like contributing - at a time when your elected leaders are looking to screw you over again - I hope you'll do something meaningful to defend your rights.

All I'm asking from my fellow CA residents is a 2 minute email or a 2 minute phonecall.

Please.
