Default Hertz Navigation System

Has anyone ever rented a Hertz car w/ their form of a navigation system? How is the system? Does it work well? Is it worth the extra money? I will be in AZ and never have been there before so it may be useful to get around. I am just wondering what your experiences with it are. Thanks.

yeah i usually get it whenever i rent from hertz. it's around $8/day right? i think i had a magellan unit last time. besides mapping routes and calculating distance, it's very handy for finding restaurants, hotels, and ATMs. however, i remember being frustrated because it was slow at recalculating routes (for example, if you don't pay attention and miss an exit).

I had a megellan unit last time as well. It wasn't the fastest thing in the world, but it did the job pretty well........as well as doing a good job taking my attention from the road to messing around with the unit. haha I agree with Rich, it is very handy for finding restaurants, hotels, bars, etc. It is a fun toy, and if you don't care about the money, go for it, but you can definitely survive on your own. Phoenix isn't that hard to navigate, but there are places that you probably don't want to get lost once it gets dark.

I just got back from AZ, and Its pretty easy to get around out there. All the streets are either north/south or east/west. If you ahve any sense of direction and a map, you should be fine.

can't say I'd rent with Hertz, considering I work for their main competition. but the navi system is pretty cool, I have to admit that.
