I've been lucky enough to never have a cold sore, but I get canker sores all the time.

on the outside of the lip or inside? outside might mean herpes, inside it should be okay...
my dad has this crazy painkiller that u apply directly and u dont even feel the paint anymore. but if u sleep for 10 hours for 2 days (make sure its early) , stay away from fried foods, brush a lot and rinse with mouthwash, it should disappear pretty quick.
