Boosted M3?
from the way you told your story...it sounded like a street race. and you drove by him again later on and he reved twice hitting redline...doesnt sound too much like a track. anyway...petey was just messing around like he said.

So what's the skinny on the boost? Is it a kit or does it have to be a custom job?
I've got to get this 90w peanut butter out of my gearbox. I think it's broken in now, but I can't nail the 1/2 shift at 8500 RPMS even with the double synchros, so I don't have any times from tonight worth reporting. This oil's so thick it won't let me shift at high RPMs. 2/3 and 3/4 are fine, but the double synchro set is either messed up or doesn't like 90w.

That would be ridiculous. I lost. It doesn't matter why. I didn't have any reason to suspect he was boosted because he only ran a 13.96. My OLD setup ($650 + a stock GSX) ran 13.50's.
...........^^^^..........>worlds shortest mod list.
Well, I know of people who peice together a customer kit, but then a lot of people tend to go with the AA setup, it's just pretty pricey. There's also the Mtech kit which makes some decent power as well.

I just had to pop on here and ask because it's so out of the ordinary to me. And apparently it really is unusual. I hope his high ET was because he heard me bounce off the rev limiter trying to hit second, and let off to save wear and tear? Who knows. 13.96 isn't that impressive for what he's probably spent.
What does a factory fresh M3 do the 1/4 in, anyway?
PS: I laughed for a solid 5 minutes at your Avatar. Thanks man, I needed that.
That's not a good time for a boosted m3. I know some local m3's that have pulled high 11's boosted. There are a lot of boosted bimmers in San Diego, they're just spread out. My buddy has a boosted 325i widebody and his cousin owns a boosted dakar m3. I know my friend was making about 300whp before he did any tuning on his built 2.5. He ripped a vette a new one at the track :eek4:
I would love to supercharge my car, but that's gonna cost me $5k total after I'm done. I decided it'd be better for me to do basic bolt ons and cams, which should get me some decent times :rick:
Most agree that an e36 m3 does low 14's, the e46 does low 13's. I've also heard exceptions where people have broken 13's in the e36 and 12's in the e46.
Not bad for cars that aren't exactly meant to race in a straight line.

are we talking the 2nd gen M3 or the 3rd gen (current gen).
if it's the 2nd gen I know several that are turbo charged and have ran 12.001 at the track (in FL) and another that ran 11.9xx in CA.
Of course there is another guy in a M Coupe who ran 11.001 in FL as well but he doesn't count since he has around 500hp at the rear wheel and running a 2.91 rear differential :chuckles:
as for the current gen M3, I have heard of some crazy guy that boosted his to 16psi and then bumped it to 20psi then went KABOOOOM. he was supposedly running 500-550hp before it blew up.
these are all aftermarket setup
a factory 2nd gen M3 is rated at 14.3 or so. the 3rd gen is around 13.8x.
