welding
How hard is it? Anyone here "certified"? Are there some cheap classes that I can take after work or something?
My brother has some kinda welding equipment in our parents garage but he says he needs tanks for it. I'm having trouble with my exhaust and if I could weld and had a disc cutter I'd be fine to work on it myself. But I can't so I'm stuck having to pay someone to do it for me.

Arc welding is using an electrical arc to do the welding right? That doesn't use tanks right?
If there's tanks that are needed that's diffrent. I used the kind with tanks and a torch once but I don't know what it was called, we used a brasing rod and asettaline(sp). I don't know if that's the same thing I would need to do for welding my exhaust.

The welding with gas is called oxy-acetylene. There are several different kinds of arc welding, the most common and easiest to learn being MiG. The electrode for the MiG welder is also the filler, so all you do is point the electrode where you want to weld and pull the trigger. The other two are stick and TiG. TiG is the ultimate welding method, the strongest but also the hardest to do. You can probably find classes at any local community college or an art school. It's not hard to learn, but it requires practice.

you don't need gas, but using gas helps cut down on the oxidation and makes your welds much cleaner. Mig is easy. if you can use a glue gun you can mig. Tig on the other hand is hard, getting the weld to look like a roll of nickels is rediculously hard
