Default comp problem

cleaning up another friends computer, ran into a problem. we can't get her homepage to stay at google. i ran adaware, which was on hers already, got 50 objects or so. then i updated it, and it found 641 more objects :eek3:

the homepage now goes to about:blank instead of crappy start pages. plus weird shit keeps finding its way into her favorites automatically. update isn't working either, tells me i need something downladed, its odd.

any suggestions?

Check Add/Remove programs for any new programs that seem out of the ordinary. I would also run msconfig to see whats on your startup then you can further dig in your registry.

Start > Run > type "msconfig" and press enter

Go under the Startup tab and see what you are running when Windows starts. Uncheck whatever you don't need.

run safe mode and run hijackthis and ad-aware. delete all temp files and look for any suspicious apps or .dll files in c:\windows\system32
