the only two non-basic tools you need is that huge 32mm or something socket for the hub nut, and a puller to pop out the tie rods off the knuckle... you can rent both of them from autozone for free though

Bah...just did my roomates on the side of the street the other day and used a screwdriver and hammer to pop off the lower tie rod end. The hub nut wrench was a small investment overall though.
