I agree....I believe that if we had public executions, crimes which warranted execution would be much less frequent. But on that same note, an eye for an eye would also be a great deterrent.

Shoot someone, you face the firing squad.

Rape someone - well, i think you should be tortured for about 10 years - gotta keep a medical staff around to keep ya alive though. Don't want the punishment to end too early. Oh, you get your junk cut off too.

Beat someone to death - get the shit kicked out of you.

etc
exactly what i think... it is like luxury for people who are going to die... even get to eat a last meal of their choice. People need to get a life about that crap, I just dont get it.

what would make a more interesting thread is if you guys react on the fact that there were people CHEERING after the guys death.

i think people who would actually cheer after someone's death is an animal. thats all.

I think he deserved to die if he really did kill three women, as far as the cheering goes, who cares! Cheering or not cheering is not gonna make the situation better or worse. I'm sure the people were just happy that after 17 years justice was finally being served! :wiggle:

Those people that went there to cheer and freak out and all of that are seriously messed up.

I have a mixed opinion on the death penalty. Certain parts I agree with and others I don't. It scares the crap out of me to think that an innocent person (i.e. me) could be put to death. I don't really have a problem with it in really clear cut cases.

I also think that the privacy of it makes it lose all of its preventative value. I think they could use execution footage as part of first time offender probation. Kind of a scared straight kind of thing. My roommate and I watched a long ass show on the History channel the other night about the death penalty. It was quite interesting. Apparently a new type of execution they are considering is slow Oxygen deprivation by use of something like Nitrogen or Carbon Monoxide. The inmate would just pass out and then die. Technically, they could never even tell the person it was coming and just start the gas one night when it was lights out.

Of course, that would probably take away the whole cruel and unusual punishment argument to get appeals and whatnot.

I agree... I am pro-death penalty for vicious crimes, BUT being PLEASED to the point of celebration over the death of a criminal, especially when you ARE NOT a victim, is just insane.
