depends on the course and the venue. for that event about 40-45mph. the photographer uses some tricks (no not photoshop blur) to make it look like you're really moving

I was thinking that if it was a bigger track with high speeds your windows down would slow you down alot from all the turbulence.
Sounds like fun, I can't wait to try it.

on an actual track you have to drive with the windows down. even if it's raining. It slows you down a little but not as much as you might think.

Windows down for safety. 1) so if you flip you do not have glass coming at you and 2) to pull you out of your car incase you do flip over.
When I drove at VIR we ran with windows down. Figure everyone else is too so everyone else is getting the same drag as you are.
