Default A-10 Thunderbolt "Warthog"

Odd. Why would some mid 70's fighter jets be flying around here? :dunno:

3 of em came screaming into the air over our parking lot... slowed down, did some twists ,turns and slides... then took off over the mountians. Looked like they each had an extra fuel tank on them but no other ordinaces. Strange they would even be around here.

A-10s are truly awesome machines. Not exactly sleek...h... but impressive.

They're not fighter jets... they would be considered anti-artillery planes, or bombers if you want to stretch the definition.
They are still quite active, we have a large squad of warthogs operating out of Davis Monathan AFB here in Tucson. They have been engaged in frequent training exercises ever since September 11, 2001.

I thought at some point the Warthog had been retired?

A-10's were being used in Iraq if I remember correctly.

Which one has the pilot and co-pilot sitting side-by-side? It's not a helicoptor or transport plane, it's a fighter/bomber, I just can't remember what it is. That's the one that I thought was retired. It was used frequently in Vietnam if I remember right.
